If two or more windows i open ,i will not able to switch on immidiatly to other ,i usually go to Task manager and end all .what may be the problem? often i download games to my system ,is it because of that ?i have installed anti virus McaFFe 8.5i, is it not so effective?
MY CD drive too is giving problem where it dose'nt open files,it showes nothing. after i have formatted my c: it was opening and my F: drive not detecting now. is that i have lost a drive?. now recently again my CD drive not opening?
what may be my system problem?
system details: pentium 4 ,Ram -512mb, hard disk - 8GB ,
My computer system often becomes slow though often i format c:%26gt; ,and my CD drive not Opening/showing files.
Why are you formatting it all the time? Buy a bigger hard drive , partition and format it and install windows. You do know that after you install Windows you have to install various drivers such as video, sound etc right? If you're downloading from sites such as limewire that probably explains everything!
Reply:try to check the connector of your cd drive, just open the cover and check the connections there might be a lose connection. when your running out of memory you shouldnt have to download games to your system cause it will slow up your computer...

My computer will not let me reboot. Its giving me an error code /windows/system 32/c_1252.nls. ???
Do you know what I can do to reboot. I have tried set up disc. Error code that my test site gave was 5300:0820. Do you know what that means?
My computer will not let me reboot. Its giving me an error code /windows/system 32/c_1252.nls. ???
I would STRONGLY suggest before doing anything that you back up any data you need to save. There could be several things going on (and I'm not familiar with that exact error), and clearly there is a shot at your puter crashing. So now is a great time to save anything you don't have backed up just incase!
Then I would first try countrol alt delete once, which brings up your control manager. Up top select shut down and see if you have better luck that way. The last known good config is an excellent idea if that doesn't work.
And if these things do work I would suggest running all the basic diagnostics after, but if your OS is corrupt you might end up needing to do a reformat. Clearly it sounds like there is a corruption somewhere. Which is why I am so strongly suggesting you back up anything you might need now.
Good luck
Reply:Scan on windows update and scan, there is a new critical update .you manually have to download something and it will fix your problem. The same happen to my son.
.
Reply:You can try a cold shutdown, which forces your computer to turn off. This is usually done by holding down the power button until it switches off. Often, the software error will be rectified when you restart. Note that doing a cold shutdown is not recommended routinely.
Reply:there is most likely to be an error in the boot sector of ur harddrive. do u have ur OS disk?
Reply:restart.. hit delete/or f12... and a window will pop up with choices.. hit,.. reboot from last known good configuration

Ok, I think our system is called C:\WINNT\system 32\ Kernel 32. dll?
First of all, that IS our system right? Our program is Windows 2000 and our SYSTEM is Kernel32.dll right?
Also, how can I get the latest versian of shockwave without having to get a new computer?
Ok, I think our system is called C:\WINNT\system 32\ Kernel 32. dll?
Your system is Windows 2000. C://WINNT/system32 and all that jazz is just a file. Just a file. Shockwave will give you the latest version on their website. If you cant get it there, you are just going to have to upgrade your system ( to windows xp or higher. )

How to determine if the application is running on a x64 operating system through C# code?
Use the GetSystemInfo API call. The resultant SYSTEM_INFO struct will have a wProcessorArchitecture member. If it is PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 or PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL, you are running on an x64 processor.
Operating system shows wrong size of Hard Disk's C drive?
I have an XP Operating System. When I open my windows explorer and show the listing of my hard disk drives. I have 80 GB hard disk and I partition it into 4 drives each get 20 GB space. In listing it show me 18.6 GB total size for C drive and 926 MB free space but when I go into C drive and select all the folders present in C drive and check its properties it show me around 10.3 GB size on disk. Why there is such a big difference in size only in C drive and for other drives it show me the correct result?
Operating system shows wrong size of Hard Disk's C drive?
Hidden files and folders and OS pagefile. Your drives are much too small to be useful. When you install anything, even if you install it to another partition, its' library files (maybe hundreds) and registry entries all get placed on the system drive under Windows. This means you can very soon stop the system as the drive fills up. You gain no advantage using partitions, as a virus infection can soon be transferred to other drives, and if the drive actually fails you have lost ALL the partitions. Also if you do a system drive re-install, even programs on the other drives will be lost, until you do the full re-install to recover the library files and registry.
Reply:Theres probably alot of hidden system files.
Reply:The sizes are correct
80GB does not mean 80Gb of space
Harddisk manufacturers count 1GB as 1000000000B
But in software calculation 1GB is less than that because 1KB is 1024B not 1000B
It is a conversion thing
So yr 80Gb is actually around 74GB usable space
Yr drive is ok
Reply:Well, I would suggest a disk defragment...
try that, if that doesn't help come back to yahoo...
and repost your results for me to more thoroughly understand.
Reply:Certain system files (such as your swap) will not show up in the total file size count... This explains the discrepancy.

Installing operating system ONLY on c: ... need comments on that..?
80 gb hard drive, plan to patition 10 + 40 + 30 gb

d: ms office and all other programs

need comments and advise on my plan
Installing operating system ONLY on c: ... need comments on that..?
Problem is, the registry will be wiped on a clean install. In a word, no. C and D only would be my plan.
Reply:Won't work. Each partition will have less than the total space available, so your 10GB c: partition will only have about 9.4GB available.
XP Pro, with all upadates and service packs and space for restore and swap file will run you about 10GB just to start - not to mention future upddates.
Also, there is not much point in using the same physical drive to back up - what happens when your hard drive starts having seek errors? Either get an external HD for backups, or a second internal drive.
Another thing. If you use the current setup, you still need to reinstall almost all programs, since 90% of programs integrate with Windows during the install process. If you use your current setup, and reinstall Windows (clean format c:) then you still need to put all the programs back in.
Use one partition, back the whole thing up either full + incremental on a schedule, or real time backups using Windows' backup software (Start -All Programs -Accessories - System Tools - Backup).
Reply:Unfortunately, the idea of putting all your programs on the D drive so that you do not have to reinstall then after a "cleaning" of the C drive will not work. Most programs when installed (whether on C or D) add files to the C:\Windows\system32 directory (dll files, etc) and also place entries into the registry. Both of those would be wiped by the reformatting of the C drive. Without those, most programs on the D drive will not run.
The usually way to use partitions is to put Windows and all programs on C, and any data files (music, pictures, documents, etc) on D. Then you can clean the C drive without the lose of any of your personal files.
If you want to do frequent reinstalls of Windows, I recommend that you invest in a program like Norton Ghost or Drive Image. Either of them are able to make a back up image of your entire hard drive. You would install Windows and all your favorite programs (Office, etc) and get everything working good. Then you run either program and it will make a compressed "image" of the drive. You can save that to multiple CDs or DVD (the program will slipt it across the disk for you if need) or to another partition of your hard drive.
If you want to refresh the C drive, you run the program and have it copy that image back to the C drive. When done, you will be back to exactly the way everything was when you made the image - fresh install of WIndows with Office, etc.
Use this method daily to build computers for the company I support.
Reply:Don't listen to the first poster, he doesn't know what he's talking about. I would change your first partition to 20GB. This will allow you to install new programs in the future without having to change the partition table. You don't want to have the programs you install be on a different partition than your Windows install. This will cause a lot of undue movement on the read/write heads on the HDD, which results in slower read/seek times. You have to wait longer in layman's terms. Then, for data that you want to save, create another 20GB partition. Lastly, for the backup, create a 40GB parititon. This way, you'll comfortably be able to back up both Windows and all of your data on to ONE partition. Let me know if you need any other help.

Brandon
Reply:Flawed in the sense that when programs install, they will add system files, and alter current system files.
If you have to format and reinstall XP, it will also delete those files added by Office etc. If your restore point was after the programs were installed, you should be fine, if not, there may be issues that will cause you to have to reinstall the programs

Reply:I encounter customers with partitioned drives who have 15 and 20 GB C:/ drives, full to the gills, and near-empty D:/ drives. They are desperate to get more space on their C:/ drive, and it is usually difficult.
If you make a little bitty C:/ drive you may regret it.

Reply:Give up using Windows, and install Linux on your computer. Linux is immune to all viruses, malware, spyware and adware.
Linux is a complete operating system that is either free or very cheap ($10-$30) and comes bundled with a huge variety of free software.
The Linux desktop is amazingly flexible and customizable, and anyone who is used to Windows will soon feel comfortable with it - and shocked by how dull their old Windows system looks by comparison! For example, in Linux you can use up to twenty (yes twenty) separate desktop work spaces - Windows only gives you one.
Go to www.distrowatch.com to find out how to get all the popular flavors of Linux...

Spybot - Search %26amp; Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S%26amp;D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Go to www.distrowatch.com to find out how to get all the popular flavors of Linux...
...then do an image search for Linux screen grabs on Google.

I have a dell that tells me this windows\system\c_437.nls file is missing?
it is telling me I must boot from my recovery disk..however I believe my drives are hosed and wont read anything is there anything left I can try or is this computer done for? its about 3 years old and I would like to save it if at all possible as a second computer. Thanks for any ideas!!
I have a dell that tells me this windows\system\c_437.nls file is missing?
Here's how to fix this problem:
1. Boot your computer from your Windows installation CD.
2. Select 'R' for the recovery console and log on as administrator.
3. At the command prompt type the following:
EXPAND -R D:\I386\c_437.nl_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\c_437.nls
(If your CD drive is different than D: or your primary hard
drive/partition is other than C:, substitute the appropriate drive
letters.)
4. Select yes when you're prompted to overwrite the existing file.
5. Reboot the computer.
Depending on the level of file corruption, you may have to repeat this
process for another file. (I've had to repeat the process for
c_1252.nls as well.)
Hope this helps.

How can I download the screensavers of my computer system into c compact disc ?
downloading of screensavers into a compact disc
How can I download the screensavers of my computer system into c compact disc ?
Quick answer: Do a search for all files that end in SCR. That's the extension for a screen saver. For example, do a find/search of your entire hard drive (probably C:) for *.scr (the * being a wildcard). Some complicated screen savers require more than one file to run, but this should get most, if not all of them for you. If you don't know how to burn files to a cd, post that (along with your cd burning software name) as another question. Hope this helps!
Reply:You can burn your current screensavers on cd. They are in the c:\windows\system32 folder. system32 is hidden, though it can be unhidden. Open up Windows Explorer. Start %26gt; All Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; Windows Explorer. On the menu bar, select: Tools %26gt; Folder Options %26gt; Click on the View Tab. Under Hidden Files and Folders, click on the circle to Show Hidden Files and Folders. Click Apply then Ok. Now click on My Computer, then Local Disk (C:). Click your way through the following folders: C:\WINDOWS\system32. Your screensavers SCR extension. If your folders are showing the SCR extensions. Click on View and Details. That'll help with selecting the files you want more better. Now for the extensions. Click on Tools %26gt; Folder Options. View Tab. Unmark the Hide Extensions for known files types. Now that you know where they are, you'll be able to burn them onto CD. If you need further help, my e-mail address is pabloorozcojr@yahoo.com.

I turned on my computer and up pops this---"Checking File System on C: The type of the file system is NTFS.
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check but it is strongly suggested tat you continue. It goes on but I was unable to copy fast enough before it was done. What in the world does this mean and why is this all of a sudden appearing on my personal desktop computer? Thanks. Nancy
I turned on my computer and up pops this---"Checking File System on C: The type of the file system is NTFS.
if your system had dirty boot, means not shutdown properly it may happen.due to the powerloss
run chkdsk utility and it will fix automatically if any files corrupted you should cancel the disk check it is for disk consistency ..
no need to worry about the error
Good luck
Reply:You probably just didn't shut down your computer properly (using the Start Menu), and it was just checking to ensure that your hard drive is OK.
Reply:It happens when you irregularly shut off your computer a number of times when there are numerous programs running. It's just checking for errors in the writing of the Hard Drive. Don't worry...it means nothing. Just take my hint: Don't let it happen too many times. =)
Reply:It's nothing to worrie about. You probally shut down the computer in a way that it didnt like, so it was just making sure that the hard drive was okay.
It's nothing to worrie about unless it happens every time you click start %26gt; shutdown and then start the computer again.
Reply:It is your OS making sure your files are not corrupted, this is usually caused by turning your computer off the wrong way or a crash.

Sounds like it is trying to run a defrag on your computer. You might have a hard drive that is failing.

Anyone know how to extend my system volume c from 2gig to entire disk?
make sure your file system is FAT32 for Windows 9x or NTFS for XP or convert it then partition magic is a safe bet
FAT or FAT 16 only supports 2 gig
Anyone know how to extend my system volume c from 2gig to entire disk?
use partitionmagic
Reply:thre is a software : partation maizc with that you can do that
Reply:You can easily do this by using a software called PartitionMagic which will allow you to resize the partition on your hard drive.
Reply:Two options: the free one or the expensive one.
Free: Reformat the drive to use the entire disk. Doing this will wipe everything so you would want to be sure to back up your data (pictures, music, documents, etc.) to a CD or DVD. Somewhere NOT on the hard drive.
Expensive: Purchase a disk partitoning software (PartionMagic has always worked will for me). It will allow you to expand the partition to the entire disk. Realize that if you have a second partition in the other part of the disk, it will be wiped. So you would want to back up anything on it first.
Reply:If you have a back up of you information somewhere, F Disk your hard and partiotion it again. But if you don't want to do so, you can use Partition Magic, it's a good software, but I think F Disking is a better choise.
Reply:That really depends on your problem. You'll probably need to mess with partitions, Partition Magic is my favorite for that. It could be that other partitions are taking up the space, in which case they'll need to be deleted and your primary will need to be expanded. Or maybe there's a lot of unallocated space, which means the first part of deleting and resizing is done for you. It's possible that you can't see the space because it's hidden from your OS. Anyway, it comes down to partitioning.

How can i make a 'library system' using C++ programming ????what can i use data structures or classes???
am a new programming student and i really tried to do this using structures but i failed so plz can anyone help me with that???
How can i make a 'library system' using C++ programming ????what can i use data structures or classes???
I'm not really well acquinted with C++...is the system development restricted to using C++ only, cause if it's not then it would be better to use C# ( C-sharp) instead as it is easier and simpler to use. My advice is to use classes instead so that you can define the relationships between the classes...making programming for the system so much easier! Hope this helps a little:)

What is the use of system() in C++and also what are its parameters?
you can add commands inside the the parentheses to get your app to do windows system commands such as "PAUSE" which stops the program until someone hits a key to continue. You can also use commands such as "cls" which clears the screen of all data which is useful when you dont want the screen to scroll or your user to see data that was previously on the screen.
The examples i gave would look like:
system("PAUSE"); //pauses program, waits for input
system("CLS"); //clears screen of all text
With some research i'm sure you can find more commands that will aid you.
Hope this helps!

As a programmer, you need to be able to figure things out for yourself. Here's one site that explains it: http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/clibr...

What is Object Oriented Programming system in C++ / Java? What is the difference between OOPS and POL?
POL stands for procedure oriented languages. Plz help me to knoe the definitions of OOP %26amp; POL with appropiate difference ?
What is Object Oriented Programming system in C++ / Java? What is the difference between OOPS and POL?
in pol..
u hav data in global place or as a global var.
n then we start writin functions which operate on that data.
if somethin in structure of data changes we have 2 change all functions which op on that data.
n data as a global var can b changed anywhere frm prog. may result in inconsistent result if complextiy is high n dignosis became impossible.
data insecure....
but in oops:
wat is imp is data, data security
we first define data , data structure in a class n define d set of methods which can operate on that data.
data is not global now.
data has its manupulatin methods associated with it n no other method / function can access or modify that data n hence
secured.
has more real world meanin..
n easy 2 program in case of event driven programin.n in case of very complex projects..
sorry if not upto d mark but tried up2 my level
Reply:OOPS-The program is basically triggered by the user when he does an action on an object...example you goto a sign in page...you give ur username and password you click on submit it logs in and if you click on cancel the page is reset and your action cancelled...so for the same page multiple actions are possible which depends on what you do...this is called object oriented program which is user friendly
POL-procedure oriented language...here there is certain procedure defined and the user has to progress only in that direction nothing else is possible
Hope you got it!!
Reply:Here is my answer to that question in a homework assignment - it got full credit:
3.Procedural and event-driven programming differs mainly in how their flow-control approaches are handled. According to the text: the control flow of event-driven programs are mostly decidied by external events, such as the click of a button. In procedural programming, the program specifies the sequence of all operations in a step-by-setp manner, and the order of the program statements determines how the computer program will carry out a task.
OOP is a programming approach that empasizes working with objects and buiding programs by defining categories of objects that share common characteristics.
Reply:oops is the name given to the theory in which data is the most the imp thing to be taken care of rather then the procedure to be followed on it... data hiding , data encapsulation r the main characteristics of it... u can recognize a oops supporting programming language by classes and object in it

Does anyone have algorithm of banker(operating system) in c++ or c?
and also algorithm of memory management with LRU method?
this algorithm should recieve the proccess number and number of pag frames and using two parts(server %26amp; client) place the proccess on frames of memory. client sends the information received from user to server and it does the placement work.

That is the ROBOTONKO worm. It appears that you were infected, but your anti-virus program caught most of the harmful stuff, there is just a reference to the file (virus) kicking around.
Do a full system scan and you'll be alright.
Reply:This is a virus/trojan/spyware. It was supposed to startup during the initial boot, but its failing. Your antivirus might have taken care of the virus, but its advised to do a full system scan and keep your system updated. Use a software like CCleaner and Tuneup Utilities to clean your PC of junk. This will remove the linked files of this virus.
Hope this helps.
Reply:hi,
Type msconfig in the run command
select the startup tab
You will be having an option called disable all start up items
I think u need administartor rights to do this
Restart ur machine and check it out..

Can i format my system's c drive?
i have so many data on d and e drives and also i dont want to loss my data. After installing is it requred to run mother board cd. cureently iam using winxp
Can i format my system's c drive?
hello my dear good day
nice to hear that you are going to format you system..
be self dependent and whatever you do, do with confidence. once you maybe wrong but you will get it one day. so dare to do.
let me make you clear that general format mean that formatting all your harddisk and none of your drives will hold data after doing it.
but you may also format your c: drive.. youwill not loose any data on other disks. Many motherboard are compactable with winxp/vista so you might not have to place your motherboard disk after installing the os. further most dont worry check www.drivers.com for downloading your drivers.so you can carry on.
i think that you will again install winxp/vista. i am sending the procedure just go through it.
1. make sure you save all your data from your c drive to other.
2. insert winxp/vista cd. and make a boot from cd.
3. dont repare the old version/windows.
4. just go through new instalation.
5. follow the steps provided there.
6. format the drive c: there and then continue your instilation.
you may personally contact me%26gt;
firdoash_roves2000@yahoo.co.in for further help
Reply:Formatting the C drive will not affect anything you have on your other drives. Even if the D and E drives are logical drives on the physical C drive they will not be overwritten.
Reply:may be your operating system files would be installed in this drive. And then also not tru another formatting formats(NTFS or FAT).
Reply:First know where is your windows is install on C,D or E.
If your windows are install in C. Then directly reinstal XP but your all data in the C drive will be deleted. So take backup of your Cdrive In E drive. Then reinstall XP.Yes it is required to install motherboard CD.

Reply:The best thing you can do to save all that data is to buy and external hard drive with a usb port. they never go bad and never get viruses or anything of the sort just a good physical backup. It's better to have an external because sometimes a restore point on your cpu wont recover and in many of my own cases it doesn't really do that much good creating the restore point
Reply:Yes ,It is possible to format only C: ,but the fact is that u will all the installed Softwares on ur PC ,and u cant back up then..before formatting u make sure that there is no data in "My Document" and on C: ,u just back up them on D:/E: or any Permanent Drive.
Process -%26gt; Right click on C:
U will get a option :Format C: After clicking on it it will start formatting but it will ask for a respective OS Software CD,Sou should keep it with u while Installation.
Or U can format by using Bootable CD or Floppy Drive.
Reply:Use Back Up Option and this will save the data by automatically running the back up and then you can format you pc.
Reply:yaa u can format c drive, restart the system press f6 or f8 (depends on ur mother board)continuously to get boot menu options, then select boot from DOS then enter format c:/ then ur c drive will be formatted completely, that means no data will be present on c drive, after doing so, go to boot (f2 or del button)configuration menu and set boot priority as cd rom, and load ur windows xp cd, and install os again.
Reply:Yes the dos prompt commant is "Format C: /u /c" do not use the FDISK command to remove any partitions. You will probably need to boot the system from you XP install CD, exit the install by pressin the "F3" and starting it with CDROM support enabled. The above format command does an Unconditional format and Checks all Clusters. You will have to re-install the main board drivers CD. Do not even think of doing this unless yo uhave a full backup of all drives. You can lose data and make yourself very sad with this proceedure. please Make sure you have solid and tested backs ups of all data before doing this.
Reply:This should pose no problems. I use a nice little package called Boot IT Next Generation for such work. http://www.pcnet-online.com/picks/bootit...
The site above gives you a run down of the program, along with a download link @TeraByte at the bottom of the page for the free version. When downloaded, run the program to create a system Boot disc, this disc will be your partition pal for life now!
Back up your important files before doing a format, I find manual backup much more reliable. You should make a note of all the files you want to keep, and use a data disc recording program (e.g. Nero) to burn your backup disc/s. Also make sure you have your operating system (Windows etc.) boot disc at hand for re installation.

6. format the drive c: there and then continue your instilation.
you may personally contact me%26gt;
firdoash_roves2000@yahoo.co.in for further help
Reply:Formatting the C drive will not affect anything you have on your other drives. Even if the D and E drives are logical drives on the physical C drive they will not be overwritten.
Reply:may be your operating system files would be installed in this drive. And then also not tru another formatting formats(NTFS or FAT).
Reply:First know where is your windows is install on C,D or E.
If your windows are install in C. Then directly reinstal XP but your all data in the C drive will be deleted. So take backup of your Cdrive In E drive. Then reinstall XP.Yes it is required to install motherboard CD.
Thank you,
Pran

Proposed grading system: only A's, B's, and C's.?
The school board of my county is toying around with the idea of eliminating the A-F scale and creating a scale made of only A's, B's, and C's. Anything below a C you're FORCED to make up as many times until you reach a C grade.
What do you think? Thankfully, if this IS implemented in my school system, I'll be in college.
How do you think this will affect the quality of education?
Proposed grading system: only A's, B's, and C's.?
I'm not sure what the goal or purpose of this change other than to eliminate an unsatisfactory or failing grade. People have the freedom to fail. In many schools, when a student fails a course or gets a D, they have an option to repeat it, and if they earn a higher grade, it replaces the D or F. But some schools limit how many times you can do this...usually 2 or 3 max.
Forcing students to study....hmmmm. not sure what results you really get form that approach. Seems to me time might be better spent in trying to prepare those students for success BEFORE they repeat the course....perhaps review study skills and methods, and learning more how to align their learning styles with study methods and scoping out different teaching/learning styles.
This could turn into a subtle form of grade inflation....GPAs all improve automatically without D and F grades. But does that really demonstrate that learning took place?
It seems some students could be caught in the repeat until a C whirlpool and not make it out....and at that point, some teacher might just pass them through (shades of social promotion!!) and again, the grade inflation monster rears its ugly head.
In most classrooms and schools I have seen, there is a general disconnect between the book learning and the practical world and the students' perception of the usefulness of education. For all the freedom and democracy, US schools seem awash in top down authoritarianism from the State Dept Education to the classroom instructor. Add youthful rebellion to the mix along with the current social disarray, the money machine orientation of schools and colleges and the current economy....I often wonder...what was that funny word you used about education in the last part of your question......"quality?"

Hope this helps. Best wishes (and good luck in college)!
Reply:In college, to get to the next level in classes in your major or in other classes (like math), you have to get a C or better. However, college instructors don't feel the pressure to push students through the system - more responsibility is placed on the students to succeed.
In Cincinnati, Aiken Elementary has received some attention recently because their ENTIRE STAFF will be eliminated from their jobs - including the principal - none of them will have their jobs next year because of the school's failure to perform on standardized testing. This move is completely unprecedented, and I suspect that many prospective teachers wouldn't even dare go near that school for a job interview for fear of job security.
So, what would happen if grades D and F were eliminated? More students would inevitably be pushed through the system when they lack the knowledge to succeed at the present grade level. Teaching to the test will increase, rather than teaching to really cement the concepts of the subject matter.
I think a big danger would be that teachers would "dummy down" their classes - making them easier so everyone will do better and pass on the first time and not have to repeat the course.
However, I do think that because a C is average, it is not unreasonable to expect a student to repeat a course until a C is reached. But eliminating a grade below a C doesn't make sense. Keeping the current grade scale would make sense.
Reply:Can't really hurt given the way things are going today.
The heavier workload and demanding curriculum of the insanely competitive prep school that I went to really got my son's attention.
There's something to be said for everyone NOT getting the trophy.
Reply:With the title, I was horrified. However, I support the idea of "D" work being unacceptable which would lead to higher standards for graduating to the next grade. However, children that are "D" students that can't or won't improve will be negatively impacted. But then, I believe in high standards and not a free ride. If stricter standards were enforced, we would have a superior education system, albeit at the cost of lower-spectrum students.
Reply:Good. This will let kids know that they actually have to work and cant just blow everything off. But dont just listen to me because I have always been a straight A student so I dont really know what its like. One bad thing about that is that if kids seriously need help and aren't just being lazy they could be negatively impacted.
Reply:When and how are the students going to repeat the material as many times as needed to pass? Summer school is only a few weeks in some states. There are age limits that push teens into the next grade whether they passed or not. People don't want teenagers in schools with 10 year olds.
C will just become the new D. When I taught summer school, I was told not to give any homework and pass any student who showed up and picked up a pencil.

What are the (UNIX operation system,Visual C++net, and C++programming)good for?
Unix is an operating system, it can be used as a server or desktop operating system.
Visual C++/.net is a Microsoft product used for creating applications that run on windows based computer.
C++ programming is a (an object oriented) computer programming language that can be used on either Unix or Windows based computers to create software applications.
Dont confuse C++ (the computer language) w/ Visual C++ (which is an application used to build C++ projects or software applications)..

If one has occasional temperatures up to 38 C and it goes away itself, does it mean the body's immune system is fighting agaisnt something, such as possible infections? should it be ignored if it does not persist or go beyond 38 C?

i was taught exactly that in nursing school, and at the hospital we can't give anything for the fever unless it gets up to 38 C (100.4F)

Just pop in the Windows Restore disk, it should allow you to 'Format' the Drives, which deletes everything on them, and automatically reinstalls the OS.
Reply:Your operating system is also on the C drive. Deleting everything will also remove the operating system.
You might have a worm type virus using up the space.
Reply:if you have your original OS cd, then do the install and it will prompt you to "format"
you may as well buy a new drive, they are really cheap, then do the same thing, them you can always plug in your old drive when you want old files.
Reply:1]go to start%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;all programs%26gt;%26gt;accessories%26gt;%26gt;system tools%26gt;%26gt;disk cleanup
2} uninstall unwanted programs from start%26gt;%26gt;control panel%26gt;%26gt;add/remove programs
dont delete evryhting it will cause instability...go ahead and find wht is taking much of ur cpace...check in my document or check in program folder and delete them
Reply:If you delete the contents of the hard drive by reformatting or other means, you will also lose the operating system which will render your computer unbootable. A good option is to get a cheap external hard drive and move some of your stuff to that, freeing up space on your main drive.

How good are JAMO C 809 Speakers for an home theatre system. what will be the compatible AV Receiver?
Is it worth buying Jamo C 809 speakers for home theatre in comparison to Bose Lifestyle 35 Speakers System. Though I understand that price wise Jamo will be costlier but is it worth going with Jamo or shall I go for Bose by playing safe?

It's worth going for Jamo C 809 speakers. No audiophile will ever suggest Bose.

On my system, where C is the main drive, and D,is the partitioned drive, how do I clean out D?Its85% full.?
well if there is no needed data u can just format them.
if there is some files u can backup them.
possible ways of backup :
if u running winXp: XP itself has backup utility (start-progrmas-accessories-system tools -backup).
if it's other OS. u will probably need backup software.
there are lot's of but i'd recommend True Image by Acronis.

D is probably your system restore drive. You may want to leave it alone if you aren't desperate for the extra storage space.
Reply:Use windows explorer and go to the D drive and delete the files you don't need. Don't forget to empty the recycle bin afterward.
Reply:you should be able to right click and select format, that is if you want to wipe it completely clean. If not you'll have to select each file you want deleted.

Checking file system on C is freezing at 4 percent?
goto your dos prompt, try chkdsk /r or chkdsk /p.
You may have some corrupt data or some bad sectors.

Reply:Any errors that are caused by Lsass.exe are usually connected to a virus, because the file itself (assuming your computer even uses that file) doesn't have enough of a "duty" to cause such a crash. It's probably the new "sasser" or variant, or maybe the old "blaster" worm.
Here's the info on the newer one:
The Sasser worm attempts to exploit the LSASS vulnerability
discussed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011. To kill
the worm before proceeding, boot into Safe Mode and
start your registry editor:
Start / Run / regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
+Software
+Microsoft
+Windows
+CurrentVersion
+Run
In the right-hand pane, look for any entry/ies that include
AVSERVE.EXE, AVSERVE2.EXE .
DELETE it/them.
These are the files associated with the different variants:
Variant A - avserve.exe
Variant B - avserve2.exe
If the above was done already, start HERE.
You have now disabled the worm from running at startup, so
boot into normal mode again, and turn off ALL system restores
to purge your system of any remnants.
Open Windows Explorer to the
..\Windows\
..\WinNT\
..\Windows\System32\
..\WinNT\System32\
folder and DELETE *any* of the files named above.
(you will have only TWO of the above folders)
Next, go to the ..\Windows\Prefetch\ or ..\WinNT\Prefetch\
folder and find the reference to the above file/s (any reference
will be similar to: %26lt;filename.exe%26gt;-%26lt;alphanumerics%26gt;.PF), for
example, avserve.exe-0235D8H6.pf, and DELETE it/them.
Update your virus scanner and run a FULL system scan.
Now you can download and install the patch from Microsoft.

How do I access other email a/cs I have with yahoo when sign-in only goes to new BT/yahoo a/c on new system?
When i had no computer at home, I set up 2 email accounts with yahoo and went to the library etc to use them. Now I have bought a computer, i set up with BT broadband and it prompted me to set up an email a/c in conjunction with yahoo. But now when i go into yahoo on my new computer it just signs in automatically to the new btinternet.com email a/c, and does not allow me to sign in to my other 2 yahoo accounts. How do I do this?

Why have folders named RECYCLER and System Volume Information Appeared in my C: ?
As above.
They have appeared along with boot.ini (Which makes me think they have something to do with the computer boot system? ) But then there's other files such as NTDETECT.COM, CONFIG.SYS, IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS, ntldr, and pagefile.sys
Can someone explain what these are, why they randomly appeared in my C: and what they do?
Why have folders named RECYCLER and System Volume Information Appeared in my C: ?
basically those files are the files that ur operating system is based on. you either have system folders made to be visible...yeah, so here is some descriptions:
Recycler: That is a folder your recycle bun is put(remeber: recycle bin is not a software, but a folder
System Volume Information is where your system info is and where system restore points are created...
NTDETECT detects your operating system and opens it.
CONFIG.SYS is your current system configuration.
ntldr is the file YOU NEVER DELETE. Your windows operating system will CRASH.
Pagefile is also important...do not delete it.
At folder options in control panel, click on view tab and then uncheck 'Display the contents of system folders.'
Reply:I've been studying for my A+ test, and they are ALL needed for bootup, or your computer won't boot. A couple help Windows boot, one tells Windows the drives that it uses, and others the ports. Do not selete.
Reply:These are files that are usually hidden until the user selects hidden files to be shown in Tools %26gt; Folder Options %26gt; View.

Three charges are fixed to an x, y coordinate system. A charge of +12 µC is on the y axis at y = +3.0 m. A charge of -10 µC is at the origin. Lastly, a charge of +48 µC is on the x axis at x = +3.0 m. Determine the magnitude and direction of the net electrostatic force on the charge at x = +3.0 m. Specify the direction relative to the -x axis.

Installing split system A/C unit, can i use a rubber hose to connect outdoor unit to indoor unit?
iv always read that copper pipe is recommended, but i have seen rubber hosing used on many systems, whats the difference?
thanks
Installing split system A/C unit, can i use a rubber hose to connect outdoor unit to indoor unit?
While in Iraq, we used thousands of these split units for cooling. They actually worked pretty well considering the heat during the summer. You should go with the copper lines between the units. The rubber you saw was probably insulation over the copper piping. It is a good idea to insulate them.
Main thing to remember on these is to make sure the outlet drain on the inside unit is clear or you will have leaks in your house.
Reply:Never ever has rubber hose been used in connecting a compressor to an evaporator coil. That pressure in there is near or above 250 to 300 PSI. You maybe saw in an automobile a steel braided rubber covered hose and suspected that was rubber.
What you need is a "lineset" those are about $30 or so depends on length. Then you "braze" the lineset to the compressor unit and "braze" the lineset to the evaporator coil. Then you pull a vacuum on the lineset and release the freon which is in the compressor and is fully charged.
Brazing is easily done. You need "silfoss" self fluxing rod which you get at welding supply for about $5 a lifetime supply. You need a Map gas and Oxygen torch you can buy at Lowes to heat the copper hot enough.
This silfoss never ever leaks. Anyone can do this. Just heat that slip joint on there and stick the rod to it. It is so simple a baby can do it. Self fluxing No flux required. Amazing stuff.
You need lineset? go to www.usamfg.net and order a new one for about $15 to 20 surplus.
Reply:if it's a diy system don't I had 1 worked for couple of months then packed up help line then advised and advised until I took it back to where I bought it from they didn't even quibble just gave me my money back
if you do go ahead then you must use copper rubber will just split with the pressure these units run at
thanks

Split System A/C in Humid Areas Good Idea?
I live in Victoria, Texas (2 hrs from Houston) in an old house without central heat/AC. I am interested in finding out if there are folks around this hot and humid area who have used these split systems and how they liked them?
Split System A/C in Humid Areas Good Idea?
A split system is the cross between a central unit and a window unit. It will cool and dehumidify the room that it is installed in just as with a window unit. The size of the unit must be right so it can handle the heat load but it must not be too large or it will cool the room too fast and shut off and start up too soon with the flow of warm air coming from other rooms or areas that are not cooled. If good air circulation is provided it can cool several rooms just as with a large window unit. It is best to have the unit sized by a professional especially if you have cooling several rooms with one unit in mind.
