My antivirus (PcCillin) has been detecting virus file somewhere in this System Volume Information folder.
Somehow, I cannot access the folder. When I instruct the antivirus to scan the folder, it says it couldn't access the targetd folder.
Is there anyway to access this folder to do a full scan? I wants to do a full scan and get rid of any virus in there
Thanks in advance
Any way to scan C:\System Volume Information folder ?
Hornet One,
Down load Ad-Aware SE Personal as it is free. You can google it and start the download process. After you have successfully downloaded this application you can do a full scan or a smart scan and that stubborn virus will be gone forever!! It worked for me!!
Reply:You need to first turn off your system restore.
After that, boot into safe mode (tap F8 @ start up)
Now perform your virus scan.
You should also check your start up and running services. Do this from your normal windows desktop.
Type "msconfig" in the Run box on the Start Menu, check to make sure they are all legit programs, viruses like to hide in there.
Manage your services either in this msconfig or you can type "services.msc" in the same Run box.
Like anything else check the program out before you delete it and make sure its not something the OS actually needs.
Reply:My advise to you if your own antivirus is unable to find and delete the virus, is that you run Trend Micro House Calls. Trend Micro willa ask you to install an active "X", 100%safe.
Allow the entire scan to run, as it may take upto one hour. Serches for viruses/spyware with no conflict to your own antivirus. Will either stop with each virus found an advise you to delete, or will scan your entire system and show all viruses and spyware for you to delete.

Reply:You cannot scan C:\System Volume Information. It is a Windows system file which allows no access.
...BUT...
All is not lost...System Volume Information is wher your system restore files are saved.
Therefore, the malware is in your System Restore files which are basically locked by Windows so your security software cannot touch it, to remove the infected file.
The solution is easy. You simply need to delete all your old system restore points. To do so: go to control panel %26gt; system %26gt; system restore %26gt; check mark "Turn off system restore on all drives" %26gt; apply %26gt; answer "yes" %26gt; OK %26gt; reboot. Then turn System Restore back on again.
Enjoy!
Reply:I am not sure about your antivirus (PcCillin) program. Is it a good program? Have you had problems like this before using this program? The reason why I ask these questions is because of this kind of problem. When you got a good antivirus program uploaded in your computer and you do a Full System Scan, it scan your whole computer for all types of viruses, trojans, etc. and will get rid of it for you, never will it tell you that it can not access certain folders, it will scan even the hidden folders. My advice to you is, I would try using another antivirus program just to see would that fix the problem. ( this is my advice only) other will give theirs. There are lots of Free antivirus programs (if this is what you have)so think about trying something else then run a full system scan.
