Can quarantined Trojan virus files still hurt my computer? Norton cannot delete b/c its in System 32 folder?

Norton Antivirus 2006 found some Trojan viruses during a scan. Norton could not delete the files, because "access was denied." I think that this is because the Trojon virus was in the Windows/system32 directory. I tried to use windows explorer to manually delete these files, but I just got an error message saying that I was not allowed to delete them.

So . . . is it okay to just leave these items quarantined on my computer? Will it hurt anything? If I should delete them, how do I do so?

I already tried following the directions on the Symantic web site, which did not help.

I need a detailed response with directions, please.

Quarantined virus are not dangerous anymore but should be removed.

Try to scan in safe mode with network.

Tap F8 when booting your computer. Choose safe mode with network.

Start in safe mode with network.

Start -%26gt; Run: type iexplore http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html... (Enter/OK)

Scan your computer.

If you find something; delete it. Restart and do the same again. When the scanner finds nothing this scan is finish.

Reboot again in safe mode with network.

Start -%26gt; Run: type iexplore http://www.ewido.com/en (Enter/OK)

Scan your computer.

If you find something; delete it. Restart and do the same again. When the scanner find nothing this scan is finish.

Now you can reboot to normal mode.

*NOTE: Do not surf the net or open any programs when doing this scans. This because you can start spyware/adware/viruses manually.

-----------------------------

*NOTE: Only have one antivirus program and one firewall installed on your computer. Anti-adware/spyware are ok to have more of.
Reply:Turn on your computer while black screens, press F5 start windows safe mode, run your antivirus program try deleting this time..

Quarantined virus not dangerous anymore, thats what i know
Reply:Click start %26gt; run. Type with colons "C:\windows\system32". If your drive is not C, change that as needed. Find that file again the same way you did earlier, and this time, hold shift, and push delete as the file is highlighted. This is a completely skip recycle bin and other stuff, just delete it way of deleting stuff. =D Just don't forget to hold shift as you press delete, otherwise it will do a normal delete, which didn't work for you.
Reply:not sure which trojan virus you had found on your pc, if you look on symantec.com for it it will give you removal details etc....

if its quarentined than norton has done its job and removed it.

in quarentine means that it has been takin out of your system memory more or less (being general so dont qoute me) and stored by norton in a safe area.
