Will compressing the non system files on my c: drive noticeable slow the retrieval of data?

on the properties window to every file is a check box to compress the file, if i compress my data but not the WINDOWS Documents and settings, Program files and other "system" folders, will there be a noticeable change in my computers function, if so will it help or hinder?

It will take longer to access your data because your computer will have to uncompress the data you are looking for and recompress it when you are done looking at it.





Depends on how often you use the compressed files, really.
