Why is the grading system A,B,C,D, and F? What happened to E?

Well...actually, it's because when everything used to be hand-written, it was too easy to change and F into an E.

Why is the grading system A,B,C,D, and F? What happened to E?
too many kids were getting excited about recieving an "excellent" on their homework.
Reply:F is for Failure....and sound worse than E
Reply:They use E in Elementary school, it's the equivalent of an A (atleast in Florida)
Reply:I've always wondered that. But then, i figured that they use E for excellent in conduct, so that's why they don't use it in the grading system.
Reply:...for the same reason there are no "B" batterers....
